SOP-Metal Is Main Sponsor of the Finnish Welding Championship!

The Finnish Welding Championship takes place during the Nordic Welding Expo and Konepaja Trade Fair held in Tampere, Finland between March 20 and 22. SOP-Metal is the main sponsor of the competition.

Organized by The Welding Society of Finland, the competition is targeted at young welders currently pursuing a vocational degree in the field. Altogether eight competitors have been selected to compete in the finals.

“Since we are specialized in demanding welding, the Finnish Welding Championship is a perfect event for us to appear in,” says Mr Pekka Särkiniemi from SOP-Metal.

As the main sponsor, SOP-Metal will supply the steel and aluminium pieces used in the competition, while the prizes are also offered by the company. In exchange, SOP-Metal will receive plenty of visibility throughout the three-day trade event.

“In the main entrance hall, two enormous SOP-Metal logos will surround the competition area,” says Särkiniemi. “In addition, we will have our own stand in the hall. The event will be a great opportunity for us to reach not only potential customers, but also our future employees.”

Just like the trade events surrounding it, the welding competition starts on Tuesday and concludes on Thursday, March 22, when the winners are also announced.

SOP-Metal Joins National Project to Improve Its Employees’ Well-Being at Work

SOP-Metal is to participate in the Work Cycle Carries project, which aims to help companies improve their employees’ well-being at work as well as bring about other positive changes.

The project is organized by Technology Industries of Finland, Trade Union Pro, Federation of Professional and Managerial Staff (YTN) and Industrial Union. As a member of Technology Industries of Finland, SOP-Metal made the decision to join the project.

“The participation was met with great enthusiasm throughout our organization,” says Quality & Human Resources Manager Ms Kirsi Korvola-Mäkinen. “Everybody’s expectations for the project are positively high.”

The core idea behind Work Cycle Carries is that in order for well-being at work to continue throughout the entire working career, employers need to be able to take into account the varying needs of its individual employees. Meanwhile, it is also essential that employees’ wide-ranging skills and knowledge are brought to good use.

The project offers its participants a comprehensive information kit regarding work cycle leadership, as well as online tools that help the companies achieve their goals.

SOP-Metal is currently preparing for the project by composing its own plan of action, which will pinpoint the areas in which improvements are to be made during the project. Final touches to the plan will be added by the end of January.

“We’re going to be telling you more about the contents of the plan later, as some of the details still remain under discussion,” says Korvola-Mäkinen. “Our foremost goal, however, is going to be the increase of our employees’ health and well-being at work. That said, it is more than likely that our core themes during the project will revolve around these issues.”

SOP-Metal has named a project team, in which each category of staff has its own representative. Alongside Korvola-Mäkinen, other members of the project team are CEO Mr Sami Kuntola, Safety and Health Manager Mr Pekka Särkiniemi and Safety and Health Representative Mr Pekka Kotkavaara.

There’s still time to apply for the project. For members of Technology Industries of Finland, participation is free of charge. Work Cycle Carries ends in October 2018.

Our Machining Services Just Expanded! – Brand-New Vertical Machining Center Installed and Ready for Work

Our latest investment broadens our range of machining services and speeds up our process.

The new vertical machining center is a Hyundai WIA F500 Plus, which features the Fanuc 0i control system. It was delivered and installed by Finnish supplier Machinery Oy.

SOP-Metal is specialized in subcontracting services involving materials such as copper, aluminium and steel. With the expansion of our range of machinery, the overall reliability of our service is further improved.

“With all expenses included, this was roughly a €100,000 investment,” SOP-Metal CEO Sami Kuntola says and continues to emphasize, “Of course, the benefits brought upon by the investment will be significantly higher.”

The new machining center will further increase the flexibility of our production, which is something that our customers attach great importance to. In the future, our products will reach the customer even faster than before.

Last spring, SOP-Metal invested half a million euros in a nine-meter Elumatec SBZ 151 machining center, which is especially suitable for the machining of long pieces and profiles.

Moreover, a couple of years ago we invested in the modernization and robotization of our existing machining center.
